Report on the Indonesia Film Weekend

The Indonesia Film Weekend began on Thursday, 16th of April and has successfully concluded as of last weekend on Saturday, 18th of April.

First and foremost, thank you to the filmmakers for granting us the rights to screen their films.

Thank you to the SOAS Centre of Southeast Asian Studies for sponsoring this screening, and to Dr Ben Murtagh for facilitating it.

Thank you once again to Dr Ben Murtagh as well as Fathimah Fildzah for participating in the screening as speakers in the discussion on the film Turang

Last but not least, thank you to all of you who came to the screening as audience members; we deeply appreciate your time and engagement with the films.

film to watch

In total, we had 128 registrations across all the screenings, with many registering to see multiple screenings.

Out of all registered, 75 registered to see Turang along with the discussion + Q&A, 48 registered to see A Distorted Individual, 74 registered to see Crocodile Tears, and 64 registered to see Indonesia, In Between (Minikino short film programme).

Overall, the audience enjoyed the films and engaged with them thoroughly. In particular, the discussion on Turang between Dr Ben Murtagh, Fathimah Fildzah and Eric Sasono was profoundly enriching, supplemented by equally thought-provoking questions from the audience. The full audio and transcript of this discussion and Q&A are available on the Marginalia website.

Once again, thank you to everyone who participated in the Indonesia Film Weekend; we could not have done it without you. We hope to be able to organize another film screening just like this one sometime soon.

Until then!
